Founders Day

Date Posted : November 25, 2016

On the 24 November residents, trustees, contractors, staff and friends of the City of Wells Almshouses were invited to celebrate the founding of the almshouses. The City of Wells Almshouses was founded by Nicholas Bubwith, a Bishop of Bath and Wells in the 15th century and Treasurer to King Henry IV.

A service was held in our chapel followed by the Almshouses’ Annual General Meeting. The Chair of Trustees and Chief Executive gave a summary of the year’s activities. Of particular note was the ongoing upgrades to the almshouse properties including the installation of secondary glazing, storage heaters, new boilers and a stair lift. Guests were then invited to enjoy tea and biscuits in the almshouses’ historic Guildroom.
